  1. Beeswax or soy wax.
  2. Butter.

If you use two teaspoons of beeswax, you should include two teaspoons of butter, such as shea butter and two teaspoons of oil, such as grapeseed oil. You can mix and match oils and kinds of butter to your preference. 

Good carrier butter or oils for lip balms include:

  • Shea butter.
  • Cocoa butter.
  • Mango butter.
  • Coconut oil.
  • Almond oil.
  • Grapeseed oil.
  • Jojoba oil.

Remember, it’s going on your face, so the quality of ingredients in your lip balm is very important. When choosing beeswax for lip balm, make sure that it’s pure, unfiltered, unbleached, cosmetic grade beeswax. Similarly, the oils and butter you use should be raw or unrefined and always organic.

Supplies

  • Ingredients listed below, plus lip balm container.
  • Saucepan.
  • A funnel (optional, but will make pouring from the saucepan into lip balm containers easier and less messy).

Ingredients

  • Beeswax pastilles or soy wax.
  • Your choice butter.
  • Your choice carrier oil.
  • Several drops of your chosen essential oil.

Instructions

  1. Place all of the ingredients into a small saucepan and heat on the stove over low-medium. Stir occasionally. 
  2. Once the beeswax and shea butter have melted, remove the saucepan from heat.
  3. Pour mixture into lip balm containers. 
  4. Let lip balm cool and set for at least 20 minutes. Do not refrigerate, and do not touch while setting.

Use these oils alone, or in combination, using the instructions above. To start, we recommend 4 tablespoons beeswax, 4 tablespoons shea butter, 4 tablespoons almond oil, and 6-10 total drops of a single oil (or 4-5 drops of two different oils each).
