WEEK 11: 90-Day Healthy Weight Challenge

Week 11 has put the team almost over another big hurdle – they are only 1.5 pounds away from 150 lost! They all seem to be working very hard in these final weeks of the challenge to meet their goals and it is showing on the scale, with one person losing three pounds just this week.

While watching the numbers creep down on the scale is a great feeling, something else is happening around here that is even better. There has been an increase in camaraderie among the team. Everyone is so supportive and are all going out of their way to share their excitement. And it’s not just those who are participating, everyone is sharing in their successes. Walking down the hall you’ll hear “I can’t believe how great so & so looks” or “So & so is really making progress, you can really tell!”

Support of friends and family is one of the key components in a successful weight loss program and we are lucky to have the support of our work family during this challenge.

WEEK 9: 90-Day Healthy Weight Challenge

The team continues on in their effort to drop down to a healthy weight and now have lost a total of 137 lbs! We have talked about the supplements they are taking and how they fit into a healthy lifestyle, so now we’re going to share a bit about the diet guidelines they are following.

While each participant has been given unique, detailed instruction from Nurse Jacquie, they all are following roughly the same plan – an anti-inflammatory eating plan. Chronic inflammation has been linked to a number of degenerative and lifestyle-caused diseases, including cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and certain cancers. Changing to an anti-inflammatory diet can have an impact on overall health, that in turn can lead to a more active lifestyle and weight loss.

The Basics of an Anti-Inflammatory Diet:

  • Lots of fruits and vegetables in a wide range of colors
  • Whole grains like brown rice and quinoa
  • Beans for fiber
  • Healthy fats such as olive, canola, and sunflower oils
  • Seafood – rich in omega-3s
  • Spices and herbs – many spices contain naturally anti-inflammatory properties
  • Seeds and nuts – contain protein and healthy fats
  • Water, lots of it
  • Avoid processed foods, excess sugar, and hydrogenated oils

By following this plan, the team members are learning to make healthier choices and are totally shifting the way they look at food. Since the challenge is for 90 days, it gives the team a chance to really cement these healthy habits into their lifestyle, so that it is not so much about losing the weight, but leading a healthy life.

WEEK 6: 90-Day Healthy Weight Challenge

We have lost over 100 lbs!!! This week we were rewarded with reaching the milestone of over 100 lbs lost. While we have set goals that are within reach individually, it really is a great feeling to reach such a milestone together.

There are four supplements aside from weight loss supplements that the entire group is taking and here’s a bit about each one and why we’re taking them:

ProOmega Lemon 1000 mg Fish Gels

Multi-Probiotic 15 Billion (200900)Douglas Laboratories Multi-Probiotic 15 billion – Taking a probiotic is important because the gut rules the rest of the body. Once a healthy intestinal tract is in place, it provides immune system support and allows the rest of the body to function more efficiently (very important in weight loss.)
Digest Gold™ W/ATPro
Enzymedica Digest Gold – This potent digestive enzyme helps with the digestion of soluble and insoluble fiber along with beta-glucan and carbohydrates allowing the body to fully benefit from the nutrients in consumed food.
PhytoMulti without Iron
Metagenics PhytoMulti – This multivitamin is enhanced with select bioactive plant compounds and optimized with essential vitamins and minerals for multidimensional health support.

Each participant is taking the above vitamins and supplements, but the participants were also broken down into three separate groups depending on their weight loss goal, physical activity, and other factors to determine which weight loss supplement they would take. Next week we’ll share some information about those supplements and how they are performing.
